May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Motherhood is often described as a beautiful and rewarding journey—but for many women, it can also be filled with a range of emotional challenges that they never expected. According to Postpartum Support International, 1 in 5 moms experience varying levels of perinatal (pregnancy, postpartum and after loss) depression or anxiety. Moms with a history of mental health issues, thyroid issues, financial or marital stress are also at a higher risk.
Moms who experience depression and anxiety may feel guilty for feeling depressed and anxious during what’s supposed to be a happy time. But we just want you to know that you are not alone and there is nothing to feel guilty about. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we have curated 6 inspirational quotes to support your mental health journey. We hope that through these quotes you can feel the warmth and be encouraged to seek mental health.
6 Mental Health Awareness Month Quotes

1.“We want you to know that you don’t need to be in crisis or distress to seek help as going to therapy has numerous benefits.” – Carla Avalos LCSW+PMH-C.
This is such an important quote because it emphasizes the importance of mental health support. People often neglect mental health support because they think that their problem isn’t “big enough” to warrant therapy or other treatments. The same way you take preventative measures for your physical health, you should be doing the same for your mental health. Therapy is one of those preventative measures you can take to support your motherhood journey. So when was the last time you spoke with a licensed therapist?
2.“Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it.” — Mahatma Gandhi
It can be easy to see someone’s social media feed and think that they live a conflict free existence, but that is never the case. Everyone of us has problems in our lives. Our peace comes from our ability to face, resolve and move on from our conflict.
3.”Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love.” — Brené Brown
This quote really highlights the importance of self-love and paying attention to your inner self-talk or the language you use towards yourself. We encourage you to give yourself the same type of grace and kindness you would extend to others. If you wouldn’t say something to a close friend or family member, it shouldn’t be part of your inner monologue.
4. “There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.” ― John Green
This quote from John Green highlights that we don’t always have to believe everything we think. When we’re feeling depressed our brains may try to convince us that things are hopeless. Yet, as Green points out, there is still hope, despite our thoughts.
5“Don’t let your mind bully your body into believing it must carry the burden of its worries.” — Astrid Alauda
It is perfectly normal to feel worried or uncertain, especially if you are a parent. However, not every worry that enters your head is worth harping on. Also, you don’t need to carry the anxiety alone, so reach out to your family and friends and let them be your support team. You have been blessed with people in your life who love and care for you. So we encourage you to open up and let them help you.
6. “Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” — A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
Challenges in motherhood can make a mom feel like she isn’t smart enough or brave enough to be a good mom. We want you to know that you’re strong, smart and brave and you’ve got this.

Final Thoughts
Mothers prioritizing their mental health isn’t selfish, it is essential. As the saying goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup. You and your baby deserve for you to be the best version of yourself.
